By Maria Romain If you are like most brides, you will invest a lot of time and money on finding the perfect wedding attire. Bridal jewelry, a wedding gown, shoes, and a bridal bouquet are all components of a brides wedding attire. Every bride wants to look beautiful on her wedding day and sacrifices a lot of money to do so. After spending thousands of dollars on your wedding, how can you make the most of it after the wedding is over? There are many creative ways that you can repurpose your bridal jewelry, gown, and bouquet. Reusing Your Bridal Jewelry and getting the most out of it: Wear your bridal jewelry when you celebrate your first anniversary. Wear your wedding jewelry to your childs wedding. Save your bridal jewelry for your daughter, niece, or granddaughter to wear on her wedding day. Note: Be sure to store your bridal jewelry properly. Swarovski bridal jewelry should be stored in a soft jewelry pouch or box. Be sure to keep it away from excessive heat. Allow your sister or best friend to borrow your bridal jewelry for her wedding. Save your wedding jewelry for your daughters senior prom. Reusing Your Bridal Gown to relive the moment: Have your wedding gown remade into a christening gown for your son or daughter. Save your bridal gown for your daughter, niece, or granddaughter. Note: Remember to have your gown properly preserved. Use your wedding gown to make a small decorative pillow or two. Cut a swatch of material from your bridal gown to use in a scrapbook or photo album. Purchase a special doll or teddy bear and use your bridal gown to make a doll sized version for it. Dye your wedding gown another color to wear to a formal event. Reusing Your Bridal Bouquet for sentimental purposes: Preserve a portion of your bridal bouquet to place inside of a scrapbook. Preserve your wedding bouquet and display it in your home using a shadow box. Have your wedding bouquet professionally pressed and rearranged in a picture frame. Hang the frame in your home and keep as a family heirloom. The bridal business is a multibillion-dollar industry. The average cost that couples spend on a wedding is nearly $27,000. Repurposing your bridal attire makes the money spent well worth it. Creating tangible memories with your bridal jewelry, gown, and bouquet holds sentimental value. 7 Tips To Make Online Dating Fun And Safe

June 15th, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Valorie Jay Online dating has become an increasingly popular, as well as highly effective way for people to meet, make new friends, and possibly even find their soul mate. While dating and meeting new people can be a fun, positive experience in most cases, it also has the potential of being a troublesome one if things dont go as planned. It is for this reason that online dating should be approached with caution as well as some simple common sense. The increase in popularity of online dating is largely due to the convenience and ease of meeting a wide variety of new people. Its also a fun and interesting way to get to know someone; however, one still must abide by a few safety measures to ensure a positive and successful online dating experience. Remember the following helpful hints when venturing into the world of dating online: 1. Take Small Steps If someone or their story seems just too good to be true, more than likely it is. Use caution when dealing with people who appear to be too perfect. Taking small steps and getting to know someone over a period of time will allow a better chance to see if they are in fact who they say they are. 2. Protect Your Privacy Its imperative to keep your last name, your address, phone number or other identifying information out of your online profiles. One should never offer that sensitive information to anyone unless they have already met or feel completely comfortable taking their relationship to this next important level. 3. Caution and Common Sense are Critical Time should be of no consequence. One must remember that theyre never under any obligation to meet anyone in person regardless of how much time theyve spent chatting online. Use caution to ensure that someone is as trustworthy and honest as they claim to be. 4. Ask for a Photograph Sometimes just by seeing the other person you can get a better feel for who they really are. If someone is reluctant to give you their picture, theres got to be a reason and this should serve as a red flag or warning sign that something may not be right. 5. Speak on the telephone Hearing someones voice can tell you a lot about who they are. Having a phone conversation before thinking of a meeting is a great idea to learn how they communicate and what type of social skills they may or may not have. 6. Arrange a Public Meeting If you do decide you are comfortable enough for a meeting, be sure to arrange it in a public place and also at a time when other people are likely to be nearby. Its also a good idea to tell a friend or family member of your plans and where youll be at what time. 7. Follow Your Intuition Its important to pay attention to that little voice inside your head that lets you know if youre comfortable or not. If you feel the slightest bit of unease after meeting someone, quickly assess your situation and determine the best and safest way to leave. Online dating can be an excellent method of meeting like-minded people, making friends and new connections that may very well turn into a life-long relationship. However, its still wise to exercise caution and follow your instincts when meeting for the very first time. Regardless if you decide to keep your relationship confined to the virtual world rather than meeting in real life, common sense and sound judgment are both essential tools for the uncertain world of today. 3 Emerging Trends In Custom Invitations

June 7th, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Laura Paladino There is an overwhelming demand for high quality, custom stationery that really reflects the bridal couples style, personality, and wedding. It doesnt stop at the wedding invitation set anymore! It seems every modern bridal couple is opting to have their entire stationery ensemble done by a custom invitation house. As weddings become more sophisticated, the need for chic stationery quickly evolves into a necessity. Heres what I mean: Well often start at the engagement party invitations stage and later carry the style variations onto the Save-The-Date cards stage. Next, we do the bridal shower, rehearsal dinner, wedding invitations, ceremony programs, place cards and finally the thank you cards. Couples carry the consistency in design by inserting their colour, motif, or personalized monogram at each stage. Even table cards, menus, and announcement cards arent immune from the coordination. Couples are demanding it throughout their entire wedding stationery ensemble. 1) Monograms! Monograms have become the quintessential accent to entire custom invitation stationery ensembles. Im not talking about those drab traditional semi-scroll initials. These days, monograms are serious business. Were seeing full names, original designs, mixed typefaces, and watermark additions to the monogram pattern. As always, some rules still govern. Traditional invitations will almost always look best with a traditional monogram; but you can always add an original design twist to add interest. Contemporary invitations often require a new reinterpretation of traditional monograms. If you think about it, its not so much a radical evolution. Many women are opting not to change their names anymore, so more casual monogram designs can be created using only first names. That creates some interesting if not, endless options for todays brides. 2) Seasonal! One of the hottest trends were seeing is the impact of the seasons in wedding stationery! Couples are having a lot more fun emphasizing natural seasonal colours and patterns into their invitations depending on the season their wedding is taking place in. After all, weddings arent just in the summer anymore. Fall has overtaken summer as the most popular wedding season for some time now. But were also seeing more winter weddings! Wrapping up our fall seasons orders, weve seen nearly every kind of motif from acorns, pine cones, leaves, and twigs to pumpkins incorporated into the invitation ensemble. Remember, motifs dont have to be grand repetition is the key for the optimum effect on all printed stationery. For winter, were seeing a lot of seasonal accents like snowflake seals, pattern watermarks, and cooler colours. Seals with stamped seasonal imprints are a hot way to incorporate the season on your entire invitation stationery ensemble and even as creative decorative accents on other items. 3) Pockets, Pockets, Pockets! Pocket-style invitations are really hot! Theyre popular for three main reasons: 1) Pocket invitations are aesthetically pleasing. Theyre neat, tidy, and carry a sophisticated look; 2) They spell the end of the dreaded scattering of inserts after opening; 3) They help couples stuff to their hearts delight while helping guests stay organized. Much more content including cards for Directions, Accommodations, RSVP (and envelope), and Reception can easily be added together without making the invitation look like last years tax records. On the day of the wedding you can bet guests can easily retrieve all the required details for the days events! Laura’s work has been featured locally and nationally across print and television. An Introduction to Bach Flower Essences Part II - The Seven Helpers

June 1st, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Misty Cech The 12-7-19 Method of Bach Flower Classification Dr. Edward Bach, developer of flower essence therapy, classified the original 38 essences he used in his practice according to the 12-7-19 method: the Twelve Healers, the Seven Helpers, and the Second Nineteen. In part I of this series, the Twelve Healer flower essences were reviewed, along with the underlying theory of flower essence therapy here well have a look at the rhymes and reasons of the Seven Helpers. Dr. Bach prescribed one or more of the Seven Helper essences to patients who did not seem to be responding sufficiently to therapy with one of the Twelve Healers. The Twelve Healer flower essences Impatiens, Gentian, Mimulus, Clematis, Agrimony, Chicory, Vervain, Centaury, Scleranthus, Water Violet, Rock Rose, and Cerato were developed by Dr. Bach to address what he saw as the imbalances of the twelve archetypal personality types. It is through the vibrational transformation of these imbalances that healing of overlying disease states can, in many cases, be initiated. However, Dr. Bach found there were individuals that did not respond to flower essence therapy with the Twelve Healers; this lead him to the discovery of the Seven Helpers. The purpose of the Seven Helpers is to address chronically ingrained negative vibrational patterns which may be obscuring the primary personality type. For example, Olive, one of the Seven Helper flower essences, is prescribed for states of exhaustion, where one has been worn out by the struggle of healing or other life event. In this case, it may be difficult to see what the primary personality type of the individual may be, as true fatigue does not let a whole lot else show through - this real weariness may mask other personality traits or patterns. Or it may be that the chronic state simply prevents progress on the healing path that could otherwise take place. Again, using Olive essence as an example An individual may clearly be in need of one of the Twelve Healers. Perhaps they live in fear and are in need of Mimulus, and clearing this fear would allow them to heal. However, their fatigue is so great as they do not have the strength to work with these issues in this case, it may be helpful to use Olive along with Mimulus to offer a more complete support from the flower essence therapy. The Seven Helper essences can certainly be administered individually as well, particularly if a specific flower essence is strongly indicated. Dr. Bach had also written that if an individual is not responding to other essences, Wild Oat (one of the Seven) may be used: If ever a case does not respond to treatment, give either Holly or Wild Oat, and it will be obvious which of the other remedies may be required. In all cases where the patient is of the active, intense type, give Holly. In patients who are of the weak, despondent type, give Wild Oat. Beyond the original works of Dr. Bach, the Flower Essence Repertory from Flower Essence Services offers descriptions of these seven essences beyond what a physician may see. FES broadens the application of the flowers to include their use for those needing change that may or may not be related to a health condition. This is an important point, as one may have tendencies they may wish to transform, but are at no serious risk. This application of flower essence is encouraged, for any support for personal and soul evolution is indeed invaluable. So within the following descriptions of the Seven Helper flower essences, a broad view will be maintained, so that the greatest audience may find a suitable essence. As always with flower essence therapy, in cases of illness, treatment is not a substitute for proper professional care. It may be the case that an illness may have emotional roots, and that flowers can be of help, but one should not solely rely on self-prescription of flower essences as a cure. And on to the descriptions The Seven Helpers: Olive As stated earlier, Olive flower essence is indicated where great fatigue has set in. An individual may be pale, worn out and / or exhausted after excessive worry, illness, grief or other struggle. The individual perhaps feels they do not have the strength to continue; that both their physical energy source has been spent. The Olive remedy allows one to tap into a new source of light, helping one see and feel a rejuvenation that comes from establishing (or re-establishing) a connection to a universal energy. This connection may provide the impetus needed for change in other areas, or may be transformative in and of itself through helping on realize that the etheric spirit body and the physical body are inseparable. Gorse This flower essence is used where one has lost will due to discouragement, becoming hopeless and resigned to ones condition. They have perhaps been giving too much energy to the negative possibilities, solidifying this outlook so no progress can be made. This remedy restores hope to such individuals, so they may be able to have a brighter outlook, perhaps more joy, when confronted with lifes challenges. Oak The remedy for those committed to over-striving, regardless if that striving is having a positive result. Those in need of the Oak flower essence have great determination and strength, which can be true assets. However, at times it is crucial to balance this force with subtlety and grace. The individual may have even become resigned to the inevitable failure of their endeavor or succumbing to an illness, yet they continue with their efforts. Oak helps restore a balance, allowing one the freedom of letting up or resting when that is in fact what is required. An important essence in todays hard-striving world. Vine For those who see their way as the right way or the only way, Vine essence allows an opening in ones perception for other points of view. An individual in need of Vine may have a domineering personality, insisting that everyone else follow their lead, including health professionals. Such a point of view can lead to great stress when it is perceived do not share the same ideas, and that harm, or at least lack of healing, may come about. Vine essence may soften this selfish nature, assisting one to understand that other points of view may be entirely valid, and in fact, more complete than ones own. This allows the individual to receive needed support, often a key component in any personal transformation. Heather The Heather type appear self-obsessed, talking continually about their own situations and problems. Such persons are in fact truly lonely and often in great emotional pain. They may feel an emptiness or hunger, which they feed from the attention of others. This flower essence helps one make a connection to the Higher Self, finding peace and solace in the unity of all being. This realization helps one overcome the loneliness and disconnection they may feel, drawing on emotional self-sufficiency and true shared relationship with others for assistance. Rock Water For those that are too hard on themselves. Being reflective and aware is one thing, to go so far as to limit ones (and ones friends and family) enjoyment of life is another. Flexibility and spontaneity are key components to the life well lived. Further, a rigidity in lifestyle can prevent one from finding joy, an important factor in healing from many illnesses. This essence is sometimes indicated for those beginning flower essence therapy or those who do not see results, as it may assist in opening the soul to the energies of the plant realm. Wild Oat Health and happiness are very much connected with ones ability to find ones true vocation. Wandering through life feeling a lack of purpose can lead to distressed states, with addictions or despondency being possible results. Wild Oat flower essence may help align one with their true calling, so that both the individual and the greater environment can benefit. When one finds this sense of meaning, there is a strong inner light that can shine forth, supporting ones own health, and the health of those around them. These are the Seven Helpers, as categorized per Dr. Edward Bachs 12-7-19 flower essence method. It is said that with the Twelve Healers and the Seven Helpers, one can support transformation of many vibrational/emotional states. At the same time, it is important to keep ones mind open to possibilities; there are a great number of researched flower essences available, ones that may be even more precisely applied to a particular situation. The Healer and Helper essences are however, a fantastic place to start if one is seeking an effective collection of remedies, suitable for the needs of many beings. Shampoo And Conditioner 101

May 29th, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Amy Turgeon This is a very important subject. There are so many different types to choose from this article should help give you some basic ideas about what some of the most common types of shampoos and conditioners do and which is best for your hair type. Although there are hundreds of shampoos and conditioners out there vying for your dollar, they can almost all be placed into a few simple categories. Shampoos: Acid-balanced: This is a shampoo that has a low PH. It is good for overly dry and damaged hair due to coloring, relaxing, and bleaching. Since all of those services tend to raise the PH of your hair it is important to have an acid-balanced product to help lower it. By lowering the PH the cuticle begins to close which will give your hair an overall smoother appearance. Color-safe: These are shampoos that will help lock your hair color in. When shopping for these look for products that say sulfate free and/or have UV filters (because ultra violet rays from the sun/tanning booths can fade your color and these UV filters help block the rays from penetrating your hair) Clarifying: This shampoo is good for two things. Cutting through and removing product buildup from hairsprays, mousse, ect and lightening artificial hair color that has come out to dark. However, if used in excess hair may become overly dry so use minimally and deep condition. Color Depositing Shampoo: This type of shampoo actually deposits a slight amount of color with each shampoo. It helps to keep color from fading and is ideal for the upkeep of artificial red heads. A great product for this is Quantum Reds Daily Color Replenishing Shampoo which can be found at Sallys for around $5.00 Conditioners: Cream Rinse: This is just ordinary conditioner that you apply and leave on for around thirty seconds. It is good for normal, permanent color free hair. It keeps it healthy and detangles in the process. Protein Conditioners: These work well for people with fine hair. These conditioners use proteins which actually help to expand each individual hair strand which gives the appearance of fuller hair. Deep Treatment: These are great for color-treated or dry hair. It helps to temporarily fill in the damaged cuticle to give it a smoother looking appearance. The keywords here are temporarily help, remember there is no product out there that can correct breakage or split ends. This should only be done 1-2 times a week. How To Be Successful In Today’s Job Market

May 18th, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Joe Love Reorganizing, downsizing, consolidating, and streamlining are more than just a few fashionable buzzwords that describe todays job market. For millions of people, they have meant just one thing: loss of their jobs. Yet there still plenty of good positions open for those people who are prepared. Only many of these jobs arent the same as before. They reflect a changing world of work, a world in which companies are flatter and less bureaucratic, knowledge is more valued than longevity, and global competitive pressure has broken down the lifelong-employment contract of yesterday. For people who want to find a new job, or keep the job they have, this new world of work demands new attitudes, new skills, and new responsibilities There is no longer any such thing as job security. No employer is going to guarantee you a job for life. Companies are trying to survive in a world in which change is constant, in which new competitors suddenly appear, and demanding customers are always clamoring for new products and services. The first priority of companies is to counteract the competition and fulfill the demands of their customers. Keeping employees is not a priority. But before you become disillusioned by this, you also need to know that there is still plenty of work to be done and people needed to do that work. In todays world of work, you will not be given job security automatically. But you can earn it. How? By making yourself valuable to the company. But its your responsibility and not the companys to manage your career. You are in charge of that. To really take charge of your career you first have to understand how companies are changing, and how to choose the company for your future. Then you have to identify and develop the knowledge and skills that these new companies require from their employees. Faced with mounting competitive pressures and budgetary constraints, companies are trying to eliminate the fat to increase efficiency and productivity. They want to be lean. And one way to become lean is to decrease the number of bureaucratic layers, becoming, in other words, flatter. By becoming lean and flat, companies then become tough enough to fend off competitors and dominate their markets. Companies today are reducing bureaucratic hierarchies to become leaner and more competitive. In these new structures, employees must take on more action-oriented, customer-focused responsibilities, and be able to lead people. They must do more than just put in an eight-hour day and go through bureaucratic routines. Whatever your current situation, whether you are well placed within your company, just starting out, or looking to make a career change, there is one thing that you must do to ensure a successful future: You must constantly be learning. Today, more than at any time in history, you must take control of your life. And being in control is the key to successfully navigating todays turbulent world of career shifts and job changes. The more you learn, the more competitive you are, the more valuable you become to current and future employers. Your knowledge is the lifeblood of your employer. In fact, in the Information Age it is more accurate to say that you work with, not for, a company. That is the power of being in control of your life. What should you learn to increase your competitiveness and employability? You must increase your skills in people management, your ability to work in teams, and learn to work well in ambiguous, complex, and uncertain situations. You must develop the ability to make effective decisions when there is no right answer. You must have the ability to solve problems and deliver results. And you must become an excellent communicator, by developing powers of persuasion and influencing. People who can lead, function well as team players, and who can actually do the work as opposed to just manage it are the ones who will always be employed. As youre learning and gaining new skills it is important to keep your primary focus on being flexible, open to change, and being tolerant in the workplace. Whether you have been let go or you decided to leave on your own, they way in which you look at it will make all the difference. Instead of looking at it as being fired or thrown out. Look at it as if you are on a paid (through unemployment compensation or your severance package) sabbatical, a time to take stock and think about your future. Becoming unemployed might just be the chance of your life. Because the answer to a better future often lies in doing something different. You need to take stock in your situation and find out where you are on the ladder of life. For example, do you really need the salary you were earning at your old position? If youre over forty-five, you probably have some savings, your expenses are lower (for example, you have fewer dependents living with you), and you received a good severance package from your former employer. Taking stock, you may realize that your financial situation does not require you to go back to a high-paying but high-stress job. You may decide that you have an opportunity to go into another field, perhaps one that has more meaning for you even if it doesnt pay nearly as well. The first step in looking for new employment is to carefully and honestly assess the needs of the marketplace, and what skills and knowledge you can bring to it. Successful people look for ways to acquire more valuable skills to boost their attractiveness. They realize that getting a job depends on what the employer wants, not what they want. Research and identify what potential employers really need before you apply for a job. Then tailor your offering to that company. Individual tailoring is more effective in finding a job than sending out two hundred copies of look-alike resumes. Mass mailings of resumes is like firing a shotgun in an open field at midnight and hoping to hit something. Here are four things that companies today are looking for: 1. A track record in creating change. The business world is a world of constant change. Companies want people who have been there and succeeded. They want people who have shown they have the courage to break through the safe status quo and tackle things on a project-oriented basis. 2. A team builder. Companies want people who not only can motivate a team but also who can pull together effective, talented teams on a project basis. 3. Cultural mobility. Because of global competition, people who can comfortably deal with other nationalities, and business situations in foreign countries are invaluable. 4. Computer and Internet skills. We are now in a world economy that is driven by computers and the Internet. Companies want people who not only have a good working knowledge of many types of computer software but also who are able to research and communicate using the Internet. When you apply for a job, send a carefully prepared letter that addresses the job you know is open and why your skills fit the products and services of that company. Get personal. Dont send letters to anonymous human resource departments. Call to find out the names of the people you want to reach. And dont be afraid to hit them with multiple pieces. Often sending to resume to the marketing director, the sales director, and the human resources director can work wonders. Chances are that in todays volatile world of work, you may one day be let go, downsized, made redundant, or whatever other term you want to use for losing your job. You can wait for that moment to blindside you, sending you into despair and frustration. Or you can prepare for it, even anticipate it, and use that moment as a turning point for your future. Horrors of Depo-Provera / Norplant

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Doug_Purcell] Doug Purcell Depo-Provera (depot medroxyprogesterone acetate) is a birth control method given in the form of an injection in either the arm or the rear or possibly both. It last up to three months and is about ninety six percent effective. Its made from prostegin which is a synthetic version of the bodys natural progesterone, which would make the injections very unnatural to your body. Here are some common symptoms associated with this birth control method: Weight gain Depression Bloating Migraines Swollen breasts Reduced sex drive Hair loss Dizziness Terrible acne Irregular bleeding Hot flashes Leg cramps nausea Vaginal discharge There have also been many horrifying testimonials of side effects by women that have received these injections. One confronted her doctor about her sickness and the doctor said that it couldnt be coming from the injections. The woman said that her doctor took $8,000 dollars from her by treating her sickness and the sad part was that she was misdiagnosed with the wrong symptom. Im not saying that all doctors are bad, but you should feel that you have a close relationship with your doctor and that he or she is out there for your well being rather than making money. Norplant This is a long lasting contraceptive which can last up to five years and is about 99 percent effective. Helping Learning Disability Students Head To College

May 9th, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Michael Russell More and more of today’s high school students who struggle with a learning disability are not letting that keep them back, but are heading off to college in spite of their disability. There are several steps of preparation that students who have learning disabilities can take to make the transition from high school to college as smooth as possible. These preparations start in high school. First, students who have learning disabilities need to work on developing self knowledge while in high school. They need to understand what learning style works best for them. They need to have an arsenal of learning strategies in hand that they know will allow them to achieve success in school. Such strategies might include asking for extra time to take tests, listening to books read out loud instead of reading them, or making up acronyms to help them remember important material. Next, the learning disabled student needs to understand the legal rights that he or she is entitled to. The Individuals with Disabilities Act (IDEA), which was passed in 1990, protects the confidentiality of records, so colleges do not have access to any disability records. Because of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, colleges cannot discriminate in accepting students with learning disabilities. Students with learning disabilities have to be allowed reasonable modifications in order to complete their education, such as extra time for tests, alternate test forms and other things. One difference at college over high school is the student must take the initiative to request help when at college. In high school, the law demands that the school identify and help LD students, but not so in college. Students with learning disabilities need to make special preparation for the transition into collage life. Students need to be aware of the options they have for college. Some colleges have open admission policies, which allow anyone with a high school diploma to enter the college. Others have selective criteria and may only accept students with a certain GPA or test score. There are also two types of colleges based on the length of the education. Two-year colleges usually have open admissions policies and allow the student to earn an Associates Degree. These are sometimes referred to as Community Colleges. Four-year colleges or universities are often more selective in their admissions acceptance and offer more specialized degrees. Some colleges have programs designed for students with learning disabilities. Those with severe learning disabilities should seek one of these institutions. Just because a student has a learning disability does not mean that he or she cannot and should not pursue higher education. The law demands reasonable accommodation for those with LD at colleges and universities. LD students who are planning to go to college need to have a good understanding of their own learning strategies and what helps them learn best. By doing some research and planning well for the transition, even students with learning disabilities can succeed and even thrive in the college setting. Traveling Back Home

May 3rd, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Kadence Buchanan The time has come to leave the place you have been living for the some time now and travel back home. Whether you have finished a degree or your job placement abroad was just terminated, the process of having to pack everything up and transfer them and yourself to your old room back home is never easy. Being a graduate student in a foreign country for the last couple of years, I have found myself, more frequently that I would like to admit, to miss my old room, my mother’s cooking, my father’s advice, my cat sleeping on my lap, my house. From the furniture to that movie I have stored somewhere in the living room, my house “smells” familiar everywhere I decide to look when I visit my home-country. Needless to say, when time comes for me to leave again, although I am excited to come back to my beloved apartment here in the “other” land, something seems impossible for me to leave behind; the memories of where I grew up. Everything I do now I love doing. I so lucky that I am not anywhere I do not wish to be nor do I suffer from being homesick that often. I am just concerned with the fact that although I love my parent’s house and I am always unhappy that I will not be able to see them anytime soon, I have come to a “weird” realization. My life now goes forward in another country. I am not feeling trapped or unable to do otherwise. I really enjoy the time I am spending in this foreign country and I will dare to admit that it has somehow become my “new” cherished home. My apartment, my friends, my truly incredible professors, my studies, my happy or unhappy memories, everything has made me evolve and become the person my folks see whenever I visit the house I grew up. Whether I want to admit to myself or not, the only thing that I miss is people. Friends or family would be silly for me to think that I can replace, but the things that I once seemed to cherish so, have already been replaced in my heart. I would love to have my CD collection available, or my beautiful couch to sit on and watch a movie, but regardless of their presence I will continue having a wonderful time and experiencing life as I should. What I am trying to say is the following. Although we tend to associate our home with the house we grew up in, which in many cases is where our parents still live, home is actually where our hearts belong. Perhaps in another graduate student’s case, home would actually be another house, country, or continent, but for me, I recently realized, home is where my mind travels when it wants to think of something relaxing. The last three times that happened, home was my “new” place. Hopefully, by the time I will have to go back, I will be glad I experienced my stay here in such a positive way. I wish you all the same. Breakthrough for the Business Person: How to Overcome Career Disappointment and Create Your World

May 1st, 2008 by steinarmurris

By Paul Davis Disappointment is something we all deal with at different times in our lives. When your vision for the future nowhere to be seen in your present it is easy to be disillusioned. Nevertheless there is a way to create your world and to get your internal reality to manifest outwardly. Be encouraged! Your present reality is not your destiny! Here are 12 Secrets to Overcome Career Disappointment and Create Your World 1. See the big picture Hold to your inward vision despite that which you see going on around about you. If you can see it, you can conceive it. Your vision is your ultimate mission. Though your job description may be miniscule and confining, your vision should be magnificent, liberating and invigorating. Remember what you see is not for everybody. Maintain rejoicing in yourself alone, as you journey toward the realization of your dream. 2. Dont sweat the small stuff Dont let trivial irritants obscure your vision and thwart your progression toward your future. Sometimes it is the small stuff that can be most aggravating. Its easier to dodge a rock than if someone were to come up and throw sand in your eyes. The smallest of things sometimes can be the most hindering. Avoid unnecessary conversations and complaining sessions among your coworkers. Be productive and avoid conversations that are corrosive. Focus on the future and stay on track in your journey to get there. Tune out to the small stuff that comes to distract you from your dream, detour you en route to your future and demobilize you by entangling you in pointless conversations. 3. Go where you are celebrated not merely tolerated The majority of people will not acknowledge or see your gifts, talents and unique abilities. Dont be surprised. Most people are selflessly fixated and still trying to discover their own uniqueness. Those who are self-aware are often fully engaged in realizing their own dreams. Dont be alarmed if they dont give you the time of day. Nevertheless serendipity will shine on you and cause divine relationships and appointments to come your way. As you cross paths and intersect with like minded people who celebrate your gifts take heed to what they say, express and see pertaining to your destiny. Remember oranges dont grow in Alaska. If you want to grow oranges, try Florida or California. Likewise must you be planted in an environment and climate conducive to your personal growth and enrichment. Only you will know what that is based on the treasures within you are endeavoring to bring forth. Go where you are celebrated not merely tolerated. 4. Guard your tongue and flourish where you are planted Wherever you are guard your tongue against character assassination. Though you may see some things, that does not mean you need to say anything. Remember we all are continually growing and maturing. Allow people time for personal growth and transformation. Change can come to any and all of us. People make changes in an atmosphere of unconditional love and acceptance. Better is it to make friends than enemies. Flourish where you are planted by finding your place and happily contributing where you are. Once people feel how much you care, they will take interest in how much you know. Earn the right to be heard by your continual contribution and by showing yourself a team player. Remember trees dont fight and struggle to bear fruit. They just remain planted and naturally flourish. 5. See problems as opportunities Contrary to popular belief, a problem is an opportunity. You wouldnt think so by the way people murmur and complain. Consider problems as opportunities for you to arise and shine. Rise above the mediocrity and manifest your creativity. Doctors get paid for solving medical problems; lawyers solve legal problems; and mechanics solve car problems. Problems therefore are a pathway to your next promotion. While others meander in the mud of mediocrity and allow problems to bury them, let problems carry you to your future as you show yourself a problem-solver and someone who can be counted on to provide visionary leadership. 6. Be a peacemaker and an encourager Workplace strife fills and floods the lives of many. Have no part in such negative counterproductive energy. Be a peacemaker and bridge builder. By doing so you will make friends, feel better and find new ways to overcome organizational obstacles. There are far too many tearing each other down and far too few building one another up. Avoid the trap of discouragement by being a continual source of encouragement to yourself and those around about you. Infuse people with energy through encouragement and make yourself an indispensable source of motivation. 7. Go the extra mile Dont be like everybody else. Break the mold. Lift up your head and throw your shoulders back. Stand tall and separate yourself from the crowd. Arrive at work early and leave late. Pull out of the hustle and bustle. Stop the rat race. Manage your emotions and martial your energies. In so doing your productivity, creativity and resourcefulness will increase. By going the extra mile and exceeding your job description you will show yourself to be a true asset to the company and somebody who can be counted upon. Go the extra mile! There are few who do so. When you go the extra mile you quickly separate and identify yourself from the crowd. There is a lot of room at the top for you to spread your wings and fly higher. 8. Replace anxiety with creativity Dont be overly anxious. Anxiety drains you of your energy and immobilizes your resourcefulness. Get a grip on yourself and patiently possess your soul. Be more childlike and playful. See things differently. Get various viewpoints from others outside of your scope of employment. Fully consider all of your options. Shift the variables and consider rotating criteria. Playfully and skillfully evaluate the best alternatives available until you determine the most appropriate course of action. 9. Be a lifelong learner There are two types of growth: inward and outward. Most look for outward growth, profitability and expansion. Yet inward growth is equally if not more important. For without inner growth outward growth never occurs, neither can it be sustained. Commit to be a lifelong learner. Continually listen, learn and explore new bodies of knowledge. One thing is certain. You dont know it all. Its amazing how much you can learn after you know it all. The greatest minds and highest achievers are committed to continual personal growth and inward expansion. They challenge themselves intellectually and endeavor to have new experiences personally that will build them inwardly. 10. Serve selflessly Everybody wants to lead but few want to serve. You cant always be the top dog. Very often the top dog is the guy who chose to humble himself a long time ago and serve everybody. People dont care how much you know until they know how much you care. When you serve people you show them you care and that you recognize they are important. When you make people feel important, they pour gratitude back into you. Those you honor will assuredly honor you. Serve selflessly and opportunities will be many, successes sweeter and people pleasant. 11. Remember the future is in you not the job Contrary to popular belief, the future is not in the job. The future is in you. With or without the job you can excel and come into your dreams. Your inner world once acknowledged and embraced can be made to manifest in any place. So should your current employer and coworkers be clueless, you can still come into your destiny single handedly. When you are firm and solid in your identity, you can bring about your destiny. Never underestimate your personal power to experience dream fulfillment when you put feet to your faith. Sometimes the first steps into to your future are those out the door of your limiting beliefs that have held you a captive. 12. Set your intent and follow your instincts You dont always have to know how it is going to happen. Just set your intent as to that which you want to happen. Thereafter be led by your gut and instincts. Intuitively within you know what to do. Now stop questioning yourself and being double minded about it. Trust your internal knowings and move on them! As you do you will continually create your world and wholeheartedly enjoy the journey!
